What's your background?
I’m a Korean American in my late 20’s living in Los Angeles. I’m a therapist and social worker.
What's your definition of self-care or what does self-care mean to you?
Self care for me is to take care of my well-being.
Tell me your story. How do you practice self-care in your life?
In a nutshell— I grew up struggling being a people pleaser. Saying no was hard, and I did let people walk over me often. On the outside, I was this smiling daughter pleasing my family and friends but felt empty and sad inside. Over the years, I learned many self care practices in my life, but my most important self care I learned was to set boundaries with others and also myself.
What makes taking care of yourself so important to you?
Because I want to be the authentic version of myself, setting boundaries with myself and others allowed me to become a better authentic version of myself.
If you had advice to give someone else on practicing self-care, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to set healthy boundaries with yourself and others! At the end, it’s best for everyone!
